Sample Software Engineer Resume - How to Write a Sample Software Engineer Resume
Sample Software Engineer Resume - How to Write a Sample Software Engineer ResumeThe need for a sample software engineer resume is growing rapidly. With the emergence of mobile devices, software engineers are in demand and they are ready to hire. There are millions of computer professionals out there who are not familiar with using mobile devices. On the other hand, we can also find many native English speakers who are going to school and college to learn the software development.Education is the main route to success, but can't leave engineering as a career choice. This is where a sample software engineer resume comes into play. A common misconception that keeps many from going into the field is that engineering is a technical job and not one that are associated with business. And if a software engineer does his or her job on his own, they would be the kind of people who will not be able to handle business issues. However, this is not true at all. As a matter of fact, the field of eng ineering is a versatile one and can become applicable in different fields. A strong aptitude for math, an ability to think logically and a keen analytical mind are only some of the qualities required to become a software engineer. Other than these qualities, the need to have an inquisitive nature is very much important. It's not a good idea to begin with a sample software engineer resume if you do not have any relevant experience. What will happen if you were to get an interview and you did not have the required knowledge? Then you would not be able to perform up to the expectations of the interviewer. So make sure that the resume contains all the necessary information regarding the needed skills and the time that you have used them.Start off by defining the type of software you're capable of doing. The job description of the position should include what exactly you are qualified for. Many times, it is required that a person have relevant experience in the field of their choice. For example, a doctorate level in the field of electrical engineering would allow you to do more than programming and writing in general. Besides, even with this qualification, the resume should indicate the details of the work experience, as well as the reasons for the vacancies.Next, start making your resume interesting. Adding colorful and unique photographs, for example, can do wonders for the overall appearance of the resume. Besides, you can include more creative content and phrases. You don't have to include hundreds of words when a simple phrase would suffice. Also, keeping your content short will prove to be beneficial to the reader and won't drive away the reader from your resume. After, follow the basics of a basic resume material and add in more information and details about the position and the company that you are applying for. No matter how big or small the company may be, there is always the need for a developer. As long as you are qualified and can relate to the duties a nd responsibilities, you will never feel lonely or lost. It will be easy for the prospective employer to recognize your potential and make the right decision based on your skills and experience.

Getting Fired or Laid Off Job Disaster Silver Linings
Getting Fired or Laid Off Job Disaster Silver Linings Whether itâs an unceremonious firing, a layoff, or the sinking realization that your dream job is anything but, career disasters can actually be a positive wake-up call that sets you off in a better direction. Of course, in the moment, it can be difficult to see any silver lining. How in the world are you supposed to turn one of the worst moments in your professional life into one of the best things thatâs ever happened to you when you canât even get out from under the covers? The secret to successfully transforming a major workplace setback into a minor career stumble? You need to have the right attitudeâ"and strategyâ"to move forward, says Patricia Crisafulli, coauthor of âComebacks: Powerful Lessons From Leaders Who Endured Setbacks and Recaptured Success on Their Terms.â And what better way to learn more about the ârightsâ in these tricky situations than to go straight to the source for advice: been-there, done-that setback survivors. Read on for their storiesâ"and hard-earned career reset wisdom. âI got fired from my dream jobâ"and could barely face myself, let alone others.â Just 20 minutes after getting sacked from his position as an editor at a national magazine, Leo Charles*, 46, called his wife to tell her the bad news. Then he just sat in his carâ"in shock. âI felt crushed. I didnât want to go home. I didnât want to go back into the building. I didnât want to tell my parents,â he recalls. âI felt completely ashamedâ"like I didnât measure up.â The Career Silver Lining: Whether you lose your job like Charles, or lose face after making a major mistake at work, embarrassment can be a paralyzing aftereffect. âThe shame really is the toughest part,â Crisafulli says. To break out of that shame spiral, talk to friends or colleagues whoâve been through it. Then draft up a list of people whoâve had similar major setbacksâ"and have gone on to do great things. Bottom line? Do whatever it takes to keep your situation in perspective and avoid that paralysis, stresses Crisafulli. Then take a hard look at what went wrong with your own situationâ"and actively learn from it. âMaybe you now know that you donât do well in that type of work environment, or you should look for a different kind of work altogether,â Crisafulli says. In Charlesâ case, the firing helped give him a clearer perspective on his strengths and weaknesses. Specifically, he realized that his boss was expecting things from him that he wasnât verbalizing, so Charles no longer waits to be asked to do somethingâ"he takes ownership of a situation to get the job done. âMy boss hated everything I didâ"and there was no way to fix it.â When Alexandra Johnson*, 50, landed a big job as a communications manager, she secured herself a nice paycheckâ"and a not-so-nice boss. âIâd always been a star at work, but suddenly, I couldnât do anything right,â Johnson says. âAll of my reports got kicked back to me with harsh-but-vague comments, and Iâd hear my boss badmouthing me to other staff. I got so paranoid and anxious that I really did start messing up.â The Career Silver Lining: When things are blowing up at work, it can be tempting to just keep your head down and try to forge on. Big mistake. Youâll just keep burrowing yourself deeper into a hole, says Crisafulli, adding that you should get support insteadâ"and fast. And when we say support, weâre not talking about friends and family. It needs to be a professional peer who can truly understand what youâre going through, and most important, doesnât have a stake in your ability to earn a living. In other words, someone who can be unbiased. âWhat was most meaningful for me was talking to a former employer who knew my shortcomings and strengths,â Johnson says. âShe gave me advice on how to deliver more of what my boss wanted. And when that didnât work, she suggested that I consider quittingâ"or risk having my confidence completely destroyed.â And thatâs exactly what Johnson didâ"after just 10 months on the job. âI learned an important lesson, which is that no matter how hard a worker I am, I canât turn every situation around,â she says. âAnd if Iâm not respected at work, I should move on. Quitting was the best thing I ever did because I was able to leverage the salary from my âfailedâ job at my next oneâ"and Iâve only built from there.â âMy boss fired me because I wasnât a team player.â When Roz Usheroff was working at Ralph Lauren, she was pretty confident in the notion that she was doing a good job at work. That is, until she got the boot. âWhen my boss called me in and fired me, he said, âYou donât want to be a lone rangerâ"you have to build meaningful relationships at workâ"with me and others,ââ recalls Usheroff, now over 50. The Career Silver Lining: âThe most important thing I learned from the experience is to ask what you could have done differently,â Usheroff says. âIf youâve been fired, donât be confrontational. Instead, say, âI donât want to repeat this in my next job.â And hopefully they will give you feedback.â Another lesson learned, says Usheroff, is to think of your manager as your number-one customerâ"and treat them very well. It may seem like a no-brainer, but both Usheroff and Crisafulli say itâs a mistake employees tend to make. âPeople can be nicer to rude customers than they are to their own bosses,â Crisafulli says. âAnd if you hate to âplay office politics,â think of it as managing your brand instead,â adds Usheroff. âIf you donât clearly present how you want to be viewed, someone else will define youâ"and you may not like what they have to say.â 3 Bonus Tips for Bouncing Back From a Job Bomb: Whether youâve lost your jobâ"or youâre still hanging on by a threadâ"these universal moves can help you recover and reset. 1. Feel the pain. Weâd all love to avoid the sadness that comes with a major career mishap, says Crisafulli, but itâs crucial to let yourself mourn. âOne C.E.O. we quoted in my book said, when someone has a setback, everybody says, âItâs not that bad,ââ Crisafulli says. âItâs well-intentioned advice, but if you avoid feeling that pain, youâll never get over it. You can never move on.â 2. Force yourself to make new connections. One of the best ways to recover from a career setback is to get right back in the game. While itâs true networking is probably the very last thing you want to do, the sooner you can forge new contacts and build your network, the sooner you can nab that next great gig. And donât wallow in your self-pity and just rely on LinkedIn, Usheroff says; making meaningful, face-to-face connections can be invaluable when networking. 3. Own your mistakes. Within a company or within an industry, word can spread about career mistakes. And no one wants to hear a bunch of excuses, Crisafulli says. âIf recruiters ask you about being at a job for only a short time,â she says, âtell them you figured out it was not where your strengths lieâ"that you now know youâll do better in an environment like theirs, where youâve learned that youâll thrive.â More From LearnVest: 10 Tough-But-Valuable Career Lessons to Learn by 30 4 Intrepid People Dish: âMy Crazy, Risky Career Move ⦠That Paid Off!â Stop Slacking! 7 Career-Building To-Dos to Tackle This Summer

How To Nail The 2nd Interview Part 2 - Work It Daily
How To Nail The 2nd Interview â" Part 2 - Work It Daily In the ideal scenario, when you are pleased with how the first interview went, you have some excellent opportunities to review and provide more detailed information. But what if you get called back for a second interview after an interview that you donât think went very well â" or with a poor interviewer. Then what? Some of the advice is the same â" but it definitely starts with some very different steps. The first step here is to thoroughly review the first interview. Why do you think it did not go well? Did you leave the interview thinking thereâs no way Iâm getting this job â" because the interviewer was strongly challenging your qualifications? Was the interview short and unfocused â" or maybe just a superficial review of your resume? Was the interview more of a âsales pitchâ by the company â" with very few questions even directed at you? Did the interviewer take up the overwhelming majority of the time? Were you asked really âbadâ questions, like your favorite soup? A significant possibility you should see here is simple: The interview may have gone poorly from your viewpoint â" but not from that viewpoint of the hiring organization. This is not an unlikely possibility for a variety of reasons from the organization just not being very skilled at the hiring process (actually very likely) to their first interviews just being used (poorly) as a short screening device. Your second interview might just be the first time the process gets serious with a better examination of your qualifications. Alternatively, if you think the interviewer was really challenging you, it may just be that you were begin questioned by a very challenging interviewer â" who pushed you but decided you should be brought back for the next round. On the downside, the poor interview, in your judgment, might be an indication of more significant issues within the company. Maybe this poor interview revealed some things about the organization that tell you this is not a company you really want to work for. Is this situation consistent with other information youâve gathered about the organization? How did they communicate initially in setting up the interviews? Donât be too quick to judge an organization on a first interview â" in some ways it really is a first impression. The second interview can present an excellent opportunity to validate or challenge any poor impressions from the first interview â" plus any interview experience is good practice. The next steps are the same as with a good experience â" Review the Questions and Your Answers from the Interview! Itâs likely you left the first interview with the following: âI wish I would have answered that question about ___ differently.â âI wish I would have used my accomplishment at ___ instead ofâ¦â âWhy didnât they ask me about my work at⦠? Before the second interview is your best opportunity to really prepare in a more focused direction. Now, review your accomplishments and rehearse your short, specific responses for the accomplishments you really want to present. Your responses should be short and include the challenge you faced, the actions you took, and the results you achieved. Take Charge If your first interview was poor because the interviewer talked too much or asked what you think were really poor, maybe even inappropriate questions, this second interview is the time to be more assertive and take greater control of the interview. Think about the following scenario: if you only had once chance to present your case, your accomplishment that best represents your abilities for this job, what would it be? Seize a moment, right at the beginning of the interview to seriously present this. With a âstorytellerâ interviewer, it could be your only choice: Thank you for asking me back for this second interview. I was thinking about an accomplishment from just the last six months. I was charged with⦠If the first interview was more of a sales pitch to you, perhaps based on the companyâs assumption that you are clearly qualified for the job (so they donât need to ask you anything), now itâs your turn to ask critical questions about the job and the company. Look for the early opportunity to ask key questions: If I were offered this position, and was very successful accomplishing the most important objectives in the first year (or first six months), what would I accomplish? If, after just a few months in this position, I was seen as a very effective contributor to the team, what would be the important leadership (or team) characteristics being shown? Your preparation can turn even a poor first interview into a situation where you have a better understanding of the position youâre considering and the hiring organization. Thoughtful analysis and preparation are always keys! (Missed Part #1? Read the full article here.) This post was originally published on an earlier date. How A Gaffe With Scantily Clad Models Catalyzed Change At LifeSci
How A Gaffe With Scantily Clad Models Catalyzed Change At LifeSci LifeSci Advisors, which provides consulting services to companies in the life sciences field, hosted a partey last year that exposed a major flaw in the way women are portrayed and represented. After hiring models to attend the party - which was part of an annual investor relations conference - LifeSci was called out by several women leaders in the life sciences industry in an open letter that criticized both the company and industry for their lack of diversity.According to Bloomberg, the models -- who wore matching short, tight, black dresses -- were hired to mingle and hold champagne in order to balance out a shortage of women in town for the annual J.P. Morgan Healthcare Conference.LifeSci treated the incident as a major wakeup call. In the past year, the company has been on a mission to set a better example in their industry -- and Michael Rice, Founding Partner, LifeSci Advisors, says that much of the anfangsbuchs tabe skepticism about ur commitment to this issue has faded as weve done more work and produced results.Rice recently caught up with Fairygodboss. He filled us in on how exactly his company has worked toward improving diversity and what their future plans are.Fairygodboss Were excited to hear about LifeScis efforts this past year to improve gender equality in the life sciences industry. Can you tell me a bit about what prompted you to be proactive on these issues? Michael Rice LifeSci Advisors hosted a networking party at the JP Morgan Healthcare conference last year for which female models were hired to mingle with the crowd. The party (rightly) drew criticism from our colleagues in the field. It was a wakeup call for us, and gave us an opportunity to understand the issue of gender diversity and our role in it. It was a catalyst for the gender diversity work weve done over the last year, and we will continue to put this issue at the core of all of our work moving forward.FGB I unde rstand you now have an Advisory Board on Gender Diversity - how did you go about choosing hauptplatine members? Can you tell me more about the work that the mainboard does? MR We created our Advisory Board on Gender Diversity to guide our efforts and help us decide what programs to invest in and/or create to further empower women in our field. We asked female and male executives in the industry with varied backgrounds and experience who we knew would offer honest feedback, guidance and insight to join the board. Kate Bingham, Managing Partner at SV Life Sciences, who co-authored an open letter criticizing the industryand LifeSci Advisorsabout its attitude toward women, is now also a member of our board and a partner in our work.FGB What kinds of initiatives have you implemented/supported? MR In addition to creating the Advisory Board on Gender Diversity, we supported Girls Inc. of NYCs Eureka Summer STEM Institute for low-income girls this past summer, and participated as the foundi ng sponsor of Women In Bios Boardroom Ready Program, which prepares female life science executives to serve on the boards of directors of life science companies. We also launched our own Board tischordnung Initiative (BPI), for which weve collected and vetted over 500 resumes of skilled candidates and placed five women on corporate boards, diversified our company internally, and sponsored and spoken at numerous gender diversity panels and conferences worldwide. Our goal is to promote and encourage women in STEM at all stages of their careers through STEM education, mentorship, networking and professional development.FGB What kind of reaction have you seen from employees and colleagues? MR For the most part, the reaction has been very positive. Much of the initial skepticism about our commitment to this issue has faded as weve done more work and produced results. Many colleagues have become partners in our work, sending tips on open board positions and candidates for the BPI resume d atabase, and offering to become mentors for the Boardroom Ready graduates. Were continuing to spread the word and get clients, colleagues and other organizations involved in our work, but its become more clear to me the challenges that women are up against when it comes to breaking into boards and C-suite positions that are often filled through networking in an industry that can still be very much a boys club.FGB Have you been able to measure results of any of these new initiatives? (If so, how? And what have the results been)?MR Yes. We set a goal in the middle of last year for our Board Placement Initiative to place 15 women on Boards of Directors by the end of 2017, and we have already made 5 placements. We supported 25 girls in the Girls Inc. of NYC summer program, which introduced the young women to STEM careers, and 20 participants in the Boardroom Ready Program, and are actively working to get them placed on boards. Weve also seen raised awareness about this issue and started dialogues with industry partners (like Kate Bingham), which are key in making real change. Research shows that things are improving, but at a snails pace we all have to work together to accelerate that change.FGB Do you believe gender equality is a particularly relevant issue in your industry specifically? MR The life sciences is one of the industries doing the poorest when it comes to number of women senior leadership roles, and research (including a new white paper from LiftStream), shows that though things are improving, its not fast enough. Women and men need to work together to balance the industry.FGB What are your plans for future efforts?MR In 2017, we plan to codify and cement our work through our Board Placement Initiative, supporting the second class of Women In Bios Boardroom Ready Program participants, partnering with other STEM education organizations, and continuing to engage with partners, colleagues and clients about the work were doing.Fairygodboss is committed t o improving the workplace and lives of women.Join us by reviewing your employer
